Our Villa Smeralda is 4 km from Sassari. Sassari is situated on a limestone tableland and is surrounded by a hilly area full of olive trees. This city is characterized by narrow, winding lanes with centuries-old houses, small artisan shops ,cafes and trattorias. In May Sassari becomes very populated due to the famous Cavalcata Sarda. I Candelieri (annually on August 14) is the most spectacular and popular event in the city. Between Sassari and Porto Torres there is a prehistoric altar mountain, Monte d'Accodi, unique in the Mediterranean.

Nature lovers will surely visit the nature reserve Asinara, reachable by a boat trip from Porto Torres and Stintino. In This small protected island, mountainous in geography with steep, rocky coasts. you can find the famous albino donkey, by now a peculiarity only of Asinara. These donkeys roam freely across the island. The nearby Stintino village is characterized by white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea.
